A simple question ‘what is the most expensive birthstone’ is actually not that simple 😊 There are many factors that can significantly impact the value of a birth gem and push it up the ranks of the priciest birthstones or, on the contrary, send it down the list. These attributes are color, clarity, size, quality of the cut, rarity to name a few. For example, beryl is not a very expensive rock, however red beryl in more then a miniscule size can cost $10,000+ per carat!
Here is our list of most expensive birthstones in order. In our approach we tried to apply averages to each birth crystal and provided rough estimated prices per carat for each gem ‘in the most common configuration’ if we can say so.

Here we are! The most expensive birthstone is alexandrite. It is a very rare gem in nature and can cost an absolute fortune! Alexandrite is a June birthstone.
